Digital Solution to combat COVID-19

The government has introduced a Digital Solution to combat COVID-19, which was implemented by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).
Strategic Communications Specialist of ICTA, T.M.G. Chandrasekara said that ‘stay safe’ is a web based solution which is implemented under the direction of the President and all the heads of Government organisations, to manage the citizen movements digitally in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This stay safe solution provides a solution to both key factors of the new normal life such as protecting the public while also assisting with contact tracing of infected patients, he added.
Chandrasekara said the new facility would be beneficial to the health authorities, commercial and State sector establishments and help the public with the do’s and don’ts when it comes to dealing with the coronavirus. He said this app will notify the organisation immediately if any visitor is infected with the coronavirus and that a separate officer in each organisation should be assigned with the clearance permission to view the details of visitors. This app can be used by both smartphone users and those with basic mobile phones and while smartphones will have the facility to scan the code to access information, others need to use the short message service text version for the update, he added.
“Every organisation is required to register their organisation separately in the ‘stay safe’ website by visiting http://www.staysafe.gov.lk/, to generate a quick response (QR) code and the generated QR should be displayed at the entrance of the organisation for check-in updates and one at the exit for checking-out updates. Also, if there are sub-branches and departments in the organisation, it is good to have a separate QR code for each and every department,” said Chandrasekara.
Meanwhile, he said that all public transport services, places of worship, Government offices and private businesses can use this app and the data of the visitors will be stored on a secure Government cloud which can only be accessed by the relevant Government authorities.
