Diana Gamage expelled, SJB informs Parliament Secy. Gen.
General Secretary of the SJB, Ranjith Maddumabandara said his party has already conveyed to the Secretary General of Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake, that National List MP Diana Gamage has been expelled from the party with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, sources from the House revealed that Gamage has also been removed from her position as a National List MP.
Sources added that upon the Parliament Secretary General being informed that an MP has been removed from a party, he or she has a 30-day recourse period to institute legal action against his or her expulsion, according to the Constitution.
If during the aforesaid period the MP fails to institute legal action against his or her removal from the party, the Parliament Secretary General has the authority to inform the Election Commission to institute further action against the MP in question.
