Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) National List Parliamentarian and its Assistant Secretary, Diana Gamage said, there are yet a few MPs in her political alliance agreeing with the stance taken by her to vote for the now ratified 20th Amendment Bill in Parliament.
She remarked, “When a fresh Constitution is formulated by the present Government thereby overhauling the 1978 Constitution, some of the SJB MPs, could back its ratification in the Legislature.”
Gamage stressed that she had voted for the 20th Amendment proposed by the Government, as a President who was elected by the vote of the masses, should be allowed to perform his or her duties, without being shackled by the Articles in the Constitution.
She emphasised that she had voted for the new Bill sans perks or privileges from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and averred that the President will not be able to develop this nation by being reduced to a mere puppet through the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
She added, she was not afraid to face any disciplinary inquiry from her Party and affirmed that she was also resigning from her post as the Deputy Secretary of the SJB.
