DGHS permits Friday Congregational Prayers
The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has granted permission to conduct the Friday (Jumu'a) Congregational Prayers at mosques from tomorrow (22).
DGHS Dr. Asela Gunawardena noted, however, that the Friday prayers will be permitted subject to certain conditions.
Accordingly, only a single prayer session (waqth) will be permitted per mosque, with no more than 50 persons present.
Other gatherings outside the mosque (at the entrance/exit, handwashing areas) are prohibited, while all worshippers are to refrain from handshaking, hugs or any other physical greetings/contact.
Further, all persons, including the priest (Imaam) are required to wear face masks, and bring their own prayer mats.
A distance of one meter must be maintained between persons at all times.
Dr. Gunawardena added that worshippers should be seated at every other row, and they should be advised to perform ablution (wudhu) at home, as best as possible.
Persons displaying even the slightest symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat etc. will not be allowed to enter mosques.
