Devans Premier League T10 Tournament on 27/28 in Rathgama

Four teams will vie for the ‘T.A.C.N. Gunasekara Memorial Challenge Trophy’ in the Devans Premier League T10 Cricket Tournament featuring the cream of the current and past cricketers who represented Devapathiraja College Rathgama. The tournament will be held at the Rathgama public grounds on 27 and 28 February. 

Cricketers of the calibre of Tharindu Kaushal and Nirwantha Thikshila de Silva (National caps), Dilshan Kanchana (SL under-19 player) and Chalana de Silva, Raveen Yasas, Roshan Lakmal, Pathum Madhusanka, Tharindu Nuwan, Chathura Lakshan, Thisara Dilshan, Pathum Madhusanka, Kalpa Chethiya, Sudeera Weerarathne, Pawan Sandesh, Jeewaka Shasheen (Club Cricketers) will participate in this tournament.

Late Principal T.A.C.N. Gunasekara was the pioneer who introduced cricket to Devapathiraja in 1997, and to felicitate the late Principal the trophy is named after him. The College went on to produce many talented cricketers at all levels. Devapathiraja emerged runner-up of the Astra Cup Under-16 Division III Tournament in 2004 under Darshana Srimal Hewawasam.

They emerged Under-13 Division Two champs in 2011 under the guidance of Principal Bandula Jayasinghe and captain D. Nilanka Rukshitha.  Devapathiraja emerged runner-up in the Singer Trophy Under-19 Division III Tournament under the guidance of Principal M.W.R. Alwis and skipper Lahiru Madhuwantha in 2013/2014. Devapathiraja emerged champions of the Singer Trophy Under-19 Division II Tournament under the guidance of Principal M.W.R. Alwis and skipper Pathum Madhusanka Mendis in 2017/2018. 

They achieved all this under Y. Nishantha Kumara, master-in-charge and Ranjan Lasantha de Silva, coach. Currently Devapathiraja has been promoted to play in Division One in all age groups - Under 13, 15, 17 and 19.

The four teams will be led by Tharindu Kaushal (Devan Soldiers), Darshana Srimal (Devan Gladiators), Tharindu Nuwan (Devan Fighters) and current skipper of the college team Sudeera Weerarathne (Devan Juniors). The teams will play on a league basis. First and second place on the points table will meet in the final, while No.3 and No.4 will meet in the consolation final.
