Local TUs influenced decision to halt Litro Gas chairman's removal

The decision to halt the removal of Theshara Jayasinghe from his post as Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Ltd, was made following requests made by trade unions, the National United Litro Guardianship said.

Speaking at a media briefing this evening (13), Propaganda Secretary of the Union, Piyal Colambage explained that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was made aware of the directive to remove Jayasinghe only during his visit to the Kerawalapitiya terminal this morning.

Subsequently, members of the Union had requested that the President halt this decision, explaining that Jayasinghe himself had been in the position for only six months, and had already built momentum with the company's employees.

Earlier this morning, President Rajapaksa arrived at the  Litro Gas terminal in Kerawalapitiya for an inspection visit.

It was reported that Administrative Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and former provincial councilor Renuka Perera was to be appointed as the new Chairman, as per a letter written by Secretary to the Treasury, S.R.  Attygalle to the Company Secretary of  Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, Perera confirmed that the matter was communicated to him last evening (12), and that he is currently waiting for an official letter regarding his appointment.

This decision, however, was later halted by the President.
