Decision on vehicle imports in December

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal says by December a decision will be taken on relaxing the restrictions currently imposed on vehicle imports. He made this remark while participating in a discussion via the Internet.
Cabraal stated that the ongoing restriction imposed on vehicle imports will be effective till December and noted that by the end of the year the CBSL will take a final call on its lifting. He mentioned that it will be impossible to remove the restrictions at once as it will have a serious impact on the country’s economy and observed that it will need to be implemented systematically.
The Governor of CBSL also advised milk food importers not to stockpile unnecessarily and warned that if importers do not heed the instructions in vain hope that the price of a dollar will increase to 250 rupees it will be difficult to sort out their issues.
