Bathiudeen released on bail over two cases
MP Rishad Bathiudeen has been enlarged on bail in connection with the cases concerning the death of his 16-year-old domestic maid and the Easter Sunday terror attacks of 2019.
He was released on two surety bails of Rs. 1 million each and two surety bails of Rs. 5 million each on the respective cases.
The former matter was taken up by Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya and the latter one by Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.
Bathiudeen was also barred from leaving the country.
The 16-year-old girl had been working as a domestic aide at the MP's private residence and was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on 03 July after sustaining serious burn injuries.
She succumbed to her injuries on 15 July.
Bathiudeen was named the fifth suspect in the case on 23 August, on orders of Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya.
Meanwhile, the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Leader and his brother Riyaz Bathiudeen were arrested on 24 April on charges of aiding and abetting the suspects of the Easter Sunday terror attack.
Subsequently, the CID obtained an order for detention and interrogation of Bathiudeen and his brother for 90 days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
