Death of Bathiudeen’s maid: Police Record 35 Statements

Wife of SJB MP Rishad Bathiudeen and her brother were summoned by Borella Police last evening to record a statement in connection with the suspicious death of a 16-year-old girl, who succumbed to burn injuries she sustained while serving as a domestic worker at Bathiudeen’s private residence.
The wife arrived at the Police Station around 5:00 p.m. last evening (22) and a few hours later her brother was also summoned to the Police Station. By the time this edition went to press, they were still being interrogated. Meanwhile, the Police have recorded 35 statements so far, in relation to the death of the minor.
SDIG Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon confirmed this, adding that a special team has been dispatched to the Attorney General’s Department for consultation on legal action. Meanwhile, Police Spokesman, SDIG Ajith Rohana said statements were recorded from a number of persons regarding the incident, including from the victim’s mother, stepfather, brother, sister and two young women who had been brought to the house previously by the same broker.
Meanwhile, a Police team from the Colombo South Crimes Division canvassed Dayagama area, where the girl was residing, and recorded statements.
