Death of 16-year-old domestic worker: Four Suspects to be Produced in Court Today

Four suspects, including SJB MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s wife and in-laws are scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate today (26), in connection with the death of a 16-year-old domestic worker at the Parliamentarian’s residence.
The suspects were detained for 72 hours. Meanwhile, Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana stated yesterday (25) the Bank accounts of the 60-year-old broker who took the girl to the Parliamentarian’s house were being investigated. According to investigations, it was found that the broker has a Bank account in the Agarapathana area and that money has been credited to the account.
The Police spokesman said the broker, wife and father-in-law of the Parliamentarian were detained in connection with the death of the girl, while Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law was detained for sexual abuse of a 22-year-old domestic who was working at the former Minister’s house from 2015 to 2019. The suspects were brought before the Judicial Medical Officer and more investigations are being carried out in this regard.
