Customs seizes Rs 40 M in ‘Kush’

Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Division and the Customs Assessing officers, on duty at a courier company in the Seeduwa area, seized 3.9 kg of ‘kush’, a type of cannabis, hidden in a travel cushion together with a large quantity of cannabis seeds in envelopes, worth over Rs 40 million.
Customs Assessing officers, based on the nature of the parcels and the countries they were imported from, inspected five parcels suspected to contain drugs under the Customs Risk Management Process, following which the haul of cannabis and cannabis seeds were seized. The parcels were sent from Netherlands and the United States to Piliyandala, Ingiriya, Minuwangoda, Matara and Polgasowita with fake addresses. While investigating the addresses from which the parcels were received, no information was found about the persons mentioned in it.
Therefore, the officers of the Customs Narcotics Division handed over the parcels containing the narcotics to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations on Friday (16) .
