The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has suffered a loss of Rs 8,000 million due to the nonpayment of water bills during the past nine month period. As a result, sources said the NWSDB is facing a severe financial crisis. Secretary to the Ministry of Water Supply, Dr. Priyath Wickrema said the prevailing quarantine curfew as well as travel restrictions were the reasons attributed for the delay in payment.
