COVID-19 hit Cricket and Badminton

Sri Lanka’s plans for the upcoming white ball series against West Indies was hampered when two cricketers, Chamika Karunarathne and Binura Fernando, who were training for a white ball series, have tested positive for COVID-19.
Since Chamika is the brother of Olympic shuttler Niluka Karunarathne, the National Badminton pool, too, has been disbanded, as the risk of contamination is considered high. Authorities will determine the next course of action soon.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) earlier said the players were training for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) and Twenty-20 International series in West Indies. They were reportedly training in three separate groups in Colombo.
SLC said the two infected players will be transferred to COVID treatment facilities.
Health authorities are engaged in contact tracing to identify other cricketers who had come into contact with the infected cricketers.
Authorities have commenced implementing necessary precautionary measures in this regard.
