The Extraordinary Gazette signed by Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi, allowing the burial of the bodies of COVID-19 victims was issued last night.

Accordingly, burials should be conducted under strict guidelines prescribed by the Director General of Health Services, at a place specified by the same official.

Meanwhile, after talks held during the past month with the Maha Sangha and Government party leaders, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had agreed to consider the request for burial, subjected to the approval by the Health Experts Committee.

The President and Prime Minister had ordered the health authorities to convey their final decision in this regard forthwith.
