Court directs IGP to handover investigation on assaulted law student to special unit
The Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Nelumdeniya has issued directives to the Inspector General of Police to hand over the investigations into the assault of a youth at the Peliyagoda Police Station recently to a special Police unit instead of the Peliyagoda Station.
This is with regard to the incident of the harassment of a law student which took place at the Peliyagoda Police Station premises.
The assaulted student, Migara Gunaratne, was identified as the son of former Central Province Governor, President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne and the brother of Attorney-at-Law Charitha Gunaratne.
Public Security Minister Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekara also instructed the IGP to interdict the officers who were involved with the assault.
