The protest which had been organised yesterday (2) demanding the Government to release All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Leader, MP Rishad Bathiudeen at Kalmunai Municipal Council premises, was stopped by a Court Order.

ACMC Kalmunai Electoral Division Organiser and former Eastern Provincial Councillor M.K.M. Jawad had organised the protest and it was scheduled to be held at Kalmunai Municipal Council premises.

A large number of Bathiudeen’s supporters and ACMC members gathered at the Municipal Council premises.

Following the Court Order, the protest was shifted to Mavadippalli.

The protest was held in compliance with health guidelines and social distancing was maintained. The protestors carried banners saying “Release Rishad Bathiudeen,” “Don't keep him in detention in an unjust manner,” “What is the background of his sudden arrest?.”

A large number of Police Officers had been deployed in Mavadippalli, where the protest was held.
