Compensation Increases for Victims of Wildlife Attacks

Cabinet approved a proposal to revise compensation for people who have died or had become partially or completely handicapped, as well as damages to property as a result of attacks by protected wildlife such as elephants, leopards, bears, wild buffaloes, and crocodiles.
The compensation for a loss of life has been increased from Rs 500,000 to Rs 1 million, regardless of gender or age, and compensation for a person with complete disability has been increased from Rs 500,000 to Rs 1 million, regardless of gender or age. Likewise, compensation paid for partial disability or physical injuries has been increased from Rs 75,000 to Rs 150,000, as well as for damages to homes and property by wild elephant attacks has been increased from Rs 100,000 to a maximum of Rs 200,000.
