Colombo Port Eastern Terminal : Attanayake queries reason for handover

By Chathura Deshan Liyanage-(Kirulapone)
Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP, Tissa Attanayake, said the Government should clearly state the intention behind handing over the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port to an Indian entity when the Ports Authority had already completed construction.
The Parliamentarian was speaking at a Media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (17).
He explained that two previous decisions taken regarding China Harbour and another company should also be inquired into.
Expressing his views further, Attanayake said, “The reason to hand over the Eastern terminal should be explained. The Government is saying that they entered into an agreement with an Indian Company and a new management to find funds to further improve the terminal. However, whatever they might say, this Government has already taken steps to sell the Eastern Terminal to India. This loss directly impacts the country”, he said.
