Colombo Port City Bill: SC will decide on constitutionality – Rambukwella
By Thameenah Razeek
The Government will only act in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court in connection with the Bill to set up the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, Cabinet Spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella said.
He said a calculated programme is being implemented to sabotage the Colombo Port City Project and assured that the Government will not implement the Colombo Port City Economic Zone’s Special Commission Bill if it is unconstitutional.
He was speaking at a Media briefing held recently and responded to allegations levelled by Parliamentarian Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe regarding the Colombo Port City Economic Zone’s Special Commission Bill.
He added they have not bypassed the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary and the Government is bound to abide by the orders given by the Courts regarding this Bill.
“The Attorney General (AG) has informed us that the Bill is in accordance with the Constitution. We took this process further after the acknowledgment of the AG. I do not believe Rajapakshe is unaware of this. I think he made these claims out of hatred and it is harmful to the country,” he said.
The Government will not do anything that is detrimental to the country, he added.
