The Sri Lankan Coastguard saved five people including a foreign national from drowning on 10, 14 and 16 October. A 32-year-old Russian male was rescued off Mount Lavinia Beach on 10 October. Similarly a 17-year- old male was rescued off the Balapitiya Coast on 10 October, a 51-year-old male was rescued off the coast of Panadura on 14 October and two 18-yearold males, both residents of Maharagma, were rescued off the coast of Panadura, the Coastguard said. The Coastguard has rescued a total of 1,579, including 704 foreigners, since the inception of their lifesaving unit after the end of the separatist war in 2009.
