CID team to probe Brandix COVID cluster

A team of senior CID officials have been appointed to probe the COVID-19 cluster at the Brandix facility in Minuwangoda, according to the Attorney General’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne.
The appointment has been made in compliance with Attorney General Dappula de Livera’s directive, she said yesterday (18).
Acting IGP Chandana D. Wickramaratne had informed the Attorney General in this regard, Jayaratne said. The team will be conducting investigations under the supervision of a Deputy IGP.
On 27 October, de Livera instructed Wickramaratne, in writing, to appoint a team of investigators, comprising seasoned, senior Police officers to probe the origin of the COVID-19 cluster at the Brandix facility in Minuwangoda.
However, upon noticing a delay in action, the Attorney General, on 5 November, directed the Acting IGP to brief him immediately on the investigating team appointed and called for a list of names of the investigators appointed to carry out the probe.
