CID ordered to investigate Patali’s statement

Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (24) to conduct an investigation into the statement made by Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka, that “A sum of Rs 8,000 million has gone into the pocket of the Agriculture Minister when importing Nano Fertiliser,” and submit a report.
The Magistrate issued this order, based on the Court being informed by the CID while presenting the facts that an investigation was underway.
The CID informed the Court that, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage had made a complaint to the CID that there were incorrect facts, in statements made by Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka regarding importing of liquid Nano Fertiliser at a Media briefing.
The CID told the Court that accordingly an investigation had been launched into the issue.
The CID told the Court that on 3 November, Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka had held a Media briefing in Colombo and that he had issued a statement to an English newspaper and while participating in a television discussion, he made certain statements.
The CID informed the Court that accordingly, investigations are being conducted. The Magistrate ordered the CID to report its findings to the Court.
