CID arrests Chairman of local agency of X-PRESS PEARL
The Chairman of the local agency of the MV X-Press Pearl ship, Arjuna Hettiarachchi was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) a short while ago (16).
Arjuna Hettiarachchi, Chairman of Sea Consortium Lanka PVT Ltd, is due to be produced before the Colombo High Court, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana noted.
Earlier this month (10 June) the Captain of the ship, a Russian national, was arrested and subsequently released on a personal bond of Rs. 2 million on Monday (14), whilst the CID and Navy obtained the black box (Voyage Data Recorder) of the Singaporean vessel on 05 June and referred it to the Government Analyst for further analysis.
The X-PRESS PEARL was in anchorage about 9.5 nautical miles northwest of Colombo harbour as a fire was reported aboard the ship on 20 May.
