CIABOC to re-file cases over SC decision
Subhashini Siriwardena, Assistant Director-General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, says that the Bribery Commission is in the process of resuming cases that were dropped due to technical difficulties.
Siriwardena said this during a cyber conference program organised by the Ministry of Mass Media and Information yesterday (7).
The Assistant Director-General explained that all three Commissioners of the CIABOC are required in every case as per a recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding the Bribery Commission Act.
Elaborating on the Supreme Court decision, she said that the legal status of certain cases has been disputed over the new decision. However, action is being taken to re-file the case with the signatures of the three commissioners in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court, the Assistant Director-General of CIABOC mentioned.
Several cases that have been withdrawn by the CIABOC over the Supreme Court decision includes the Mihin Lanka case against MP Sajin Vaas, the case against former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, the case against Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena, the case against Minister Johnston Fernando and the case against Gampaha District MP Milan Ranjith.
