China happy with SL’s stance on Port City
Beijing’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao Lijian told China-based Shenzhen TV on Thursday (19) that China appreciates Sri Lanka’s willingness to provide legal support and preferential policies for the Colombo Port City.
He was responding to a question raised by Shenzhen TV where he was asked, “Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa presented the Government’s Budget for the new fiscal year to the Parliament on 17 November. He said the Government would formulate a legal framework for the special economic zone at the Colombo Port City, offering tax concessions and providing a sound business environment so as to attract foreign investment. What do you have to say about this?”
Zhao in reply said, “The Port City is a major project in our cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, which will inject strong impetus into Sri Lanka’s economic development and contribute to its vision of building a financial and commercial hub in the Indian Ocean. China stands ready to support Chinese enterprises in strengthening the cooperation with Sri Lanka, steadily advancing the building of projects and contribute to the economic and social development of Sri Lanka.”
Zhao made this comments at Media briefing, the contents of which were reported by the Chinese Embassy in Colombo on Friday (20). (PA)
