Children from childcare homes in CECA art competition
Some 4,375 students from childcare (children’s) homes across Sri Lanka recently participated in the first round of an art competition organised by the Colombo Expatriates’ Cultural Association (CECA) - a voluntary organisation of expatriates comprising mainly Indians - with support from the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Education Ministry, the High Commission said on Sunday (11).
Contestants from all provinces who had produced the 60 best paintings were invited along with one caregiver for the final round held in Colombo on Saturday (10) at a leading Colombo hotel, it said.
The competition comprised three categories, Sub Junior, Junior and Senior respectively. While the top three winners in all the three categories were awarded Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively in addition to various other gifts, certificates and medals, all the 60 finalists received cash awards, desktop computers and other gifts contributed by various sponsors, the High Commission said.
Education Minister Prof. (emeritus) G.L Peiris was the Chief Guest, High Commissioner Gopal Baglay (Guest of Honour), while State Minister Piyal Nishantha was also present at this occasion.
This ceremony was part of the celebrations organised to commemorate India’s 75th Independence Day Anniversary which falls in August 2022, it added. (PA)
