Director of the Chilaw Base Hospital, Dr. Kapila Mallawarachchi, said a doctor of the hospital who had come into contact with a Sri Lankan cricketer had contracted COVID-19. He said both the doctor and the cricketer had been admitted to the Bingiriya COVID-19 Unit for treatment.

The player, who was due to leave for a foreign tour, had undergone a PCR test at a private hospital in Colombo, before he had fallen victim to the virus at the hospital. Afterwards, the doctor had arrived at the Chilaw Hospital to get a Rapid Antigen Test, which returned positive to COVID-19.
