Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera transferred
Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera has been temporarily transferred from his post.
Accordingly, Dr. Samaraweera will now serve as the Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, the Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath stated.
Speaking to Ceylon Today, Dr. Herath explained that the transfer was ordered by the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, in an attempt to look into the several concerns that have been raised recently regarding the data published by the Epidemiology Unit.
"Because of the concerns raised by different parties related to the data and the other issues such as the deaths, it was important to go into the details of the process followed, and to rectify any mistakes that may have been made. For that, usually, the Government procedure is to transfer the Heads of Departments in order to facilitate such processes of rectification, and these transfers may be reversed or may be made permanent, according to the outcome of the activity.", Dr. Herath said.
