Minister of Education, Professor G.L. Peiris, said identifying the development needs and current challenges at the district level would be very effective to uplift the education system, and that the proposals submitted by the Ministry of Education for the 2021 Budget to be presented in November will focus on this.
He said so while participating in the Polonnaruwa District programme to examine the current situation in the field of education at the district level.
He pointed out that when looking into the problems that have arisen in the field of education, financial allocations needed to be made for certain problems, and that it will take considerable time to address certain situations. He also said proposals will be made in the forthcoming budget on a number of issues, including problems in the transfer process and inadequate infrastructure facilities.
Prof. Peiris and other officials also inspected the proposed location of the new University of Manampitiya, Polonnaruwa, the site of the proposed new National School in Gallella and the current status of the Minneriya National School.
