State Minister of Women and Child Development, Piyal Nishantha de Silva yesterday (2) signed an MOU to set up a centre to gather video evidence of minors who have been subjected to abuse.

This centre will be attached to the Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital affiliated to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital.

Through this MOU the Ministry is hoping to expand the centres aimed at collecting video evidence of minors who have been subjected to various forms of abuse further and to prevent them from being victimised through the judicial process.

Initially such a centre has only been set up at the NCPA but the State Ministry is now looking to further enhance its scope by setting up similar centres across the country encompassing the nine Provinces to safeguard the younger generation.

Further, the Divisional and District Development Committees have taken steps to acquire a progress report from the Ministry of Education through meetings with Ministry representatives on children who have been subjected to various forms of abuse, the State Minister said.
