Celebrating Birthday in a Meaningful Way
By Anton J. Fernando
Staying true to his practice of celebrating birthday in a meaningful way every year, the veteran singer Keerthi Pasquel celebrated his birthday this year with yet another social service. Pasquel took part in the opening ceremony of the latest Bone Marrow Transplant Unit which was established at the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama under the generous donations of Medical Aid to Sri Lanka, UK, Anjuman-E-Saifi (Sri Lanka) Trust, Design Cues Charted Architects, two anonymous donors, and Help Circle (Guarantee) Limited - a social service organisation initiated by Pasquel himself. The new unit was built under the guidance and advice of the Chief of Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Apeksha Hospital Specialist
Dr. Prasad Abeysinghe. Apart from Dr. Abeysinghe and Pasquel, Dr. Arundathi Kurukulasuriya,
Dr. Wasantha Dissanayake, Dr. Sunil Atale, Martasha Tajboy, the directors of Help Circle Attorney-At-Law Niranga Nanayakkara and Nelum Jayaweera, and members of the hospital staff also took part in the unveiling ceremony.
"Special thanks and gratitude should go to the organisations; Medical Aid to Sri Lanka, Anjuman-E-Saifi Trust, Design Cues Charted Architects, and to generous donors who wished to remain anonymous for their contribution and decision to join Help Circle in making this unit a reality in such a short period of time. We intend to continue the good work we are doing. Help Circle are already planning to carry out a project to provide clean drinking water to people suffering from kidney diseases and to aid children from underprivileged families to complete their education. I invite all interested donors to join us and help us to carry out these projects successfully," Pasquel said at the event.
