Horagolla Walawwa broken into despite Police security
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has launched a special investigation into an incident where an unidentified person had entered the ‘Horagolla Walawwa’ in Nittambuwa, the residence of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, despite Police protection yesterday (20).
Accordingly, a man had broken a door of the residence and had entered it while Police officers attached to the former President’s Security Division were on duty.
An official of Kumaratunga’s office said it is problematic that someone had entered the Walawwa when there was a Police checkpoint at the entrance.
The suspect is believed to have had broken the glass of a door and entered the house. The former President was staying at her official residence in Colombo that day and three Police officers were present at the scene when the incident took place.
When inquired about this, the OIC of the Nittambuwa Police stated that no arrests had been made thus far. He said the incident will be investigated further.
Senior DIG Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon said that the CCD was also conducting a special investigation into the incident.
