Cabinet green-lights establishing minor rights courts
The Cabinet has granted approval to set up minor rights courts in view of the delays in the legal system of the country.
Minister of Justice has presented a proposal to the Cabinet to amend the Judicial Organizations Act No. 2 of 1978 to provide for the establishment of minor rights courts and to introduce new laws for the provision of special procedures for minor rights courts.
The proposal was presented based on the recommendations of a committee set up by the Minister of Justice under the chairmanship of Dr Ruwan Fernando, Justice of the Court of Appeal, to study pre-trial and the establishment of minor rights courts in Sri Lanka.
