Govt. urges Private sector to ensure payments for affected employees
The proposal to ensure that private-sector workers, in sectors such as tourism, who have been forced to remain at home due to the pandemic receives a minimum payment was approved by the Cabinet today.
Minister Gammanpila speaking to the media noted that private sector companies have been urged to ensure that such workers receive 50% of their salaries or Rs 14,500.
The grace period granted to pay the wages of private-sector employees has been extended till March this year.
