The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to draft a sign language Bill, after identifying the need for such a Bill in order for sign language to be designated as a formal means of communication.
Notwithstanding the fact that sign language was acknowledged as a recognized language in 2010, no relevant Bill was drafted, despite the significant hearing impaired community in Sri Lanka.
