CAA Amendment Bill passed in Parliament
The Consumer Affairs Authority (Amendment) Bill, which was introduced in Parliament today (22), has been passed without amendments.
The Extraordinary Gazette Notification relating to this (Amendment) Bill was issued on Sunday (19).
This (Amendment) Bill will increase the fines imposed on traders who do not sell goods at the maximum retail prices issued by the CAA, by way of a gazette notification.
Moreover, the fines imposed on all businesses in this regard will be revised, while those convicted of a related offence may be fined, imprisoned, or both, State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.
