Tech Talk Buying an Apple MacBook in Late 2021

In late 2020, Apple revolutionised computing with the launch of the first Apple Silicone Chip, the Apple M1. With the introduction of the M1 chip, Apple also unveiled the first three Macs to be powered by it which included the 13" MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini. Out of these, a lot of people got interested in the MacBook Air, especially for the package it offers because it is just as powerful as the 13" MacBook Pro that was launched alongside it.

For the first time, the Air was just as powerful as the Pro. Now in late 2021, Apple unveiled the newest MacBook Pros, the 14" and 16" powered by the all-new M1 Pro and M1 Max chipset, so it can be a hard choice to pick a new MacBook in late 2021, considering the high prices of the newest models. What's the right Mac for you?

The 2021 M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pros are now available and they are going to change the way we use our laptops. You might be wondering why that is, and what's so special about it. It is all about an even more powerful Apple Silicone chipset. The new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are extremely powerful, you really won't believe how powerful it is until you really see them in action. I would strongly encourage you to visit Apple's website and check out the comparisons they have made.

Last year's M1 chip was more powerful than an Intel Core i9 MacBook Pro, but this year the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are quite a lot more powerful than the regular M1 chip, which makes them in their own class. Especially the M1 Max is on another level with its performance. How powerful? Well, it is more powerful than the top-of-the-line Intel Mac Pro as well, which costs over $10,000.

On top of the latest chips, the newest MacBook Pro 14 and 16 both come with an awesome Mini LED XDR display that supports Apple’s ProMotion 120Hz high refresh rate as we've seen on the M1 iPad Pro. What's more exciting is the return of Mag safe for charging and Apple bringing back the ports we always wanted on our machines like the SD Card slot and HDMI port. There are also 3 USB C ports for more expansion options.

What are the important differences between these MacBook’s?

Which one should you pick? Well, it all starts with how you use your MacBook. If you’re a student looking for a laptop that is lightweight, great for writing yet has enough power for other things, then the M1 MacBook Air is still a really good choice. Unlike previous years, I would even recommend this for semi-pro users as well because, it still packs great power. It doesn’t have fans like the MacBook Pro models but with the optimisations in Mac OS, even the most demanding applications; don’t turn on the fans unless it’s really needed.

If you’re a Pro-level user looking to buy a new Mac, then I would strongly recommend the 14” or 16” MacBook Pro models. Either one is ok based on your requirements mainly due to the higher power and newly offered port selection like SD and HDMI on top of other important things like the display. However, the 13” MacBook Pro, can’t be justified with the MacBook Air being just as powerful at a lower price and the 14” new M1 Pro being way more powerful at a higher price.

Eventually, it all comes down to your budget to decide which Mac is right for you. If budget is an issue, but if you still really want a Mac, then the MacBook Air is what I recommend for anyone. However, if budget is no issue and you use extremely demanding software, then the Maxed Out 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro is highly recommended because it is not only the most powerful MacBook Pro, but is the Most Powerful Mac available right now.

Even more powerful than the $10,000 Mac Pro at a significantly lower price thanks to Apple Silicone as I mentioned before. If you want to power with superb battery life, then go for the M1 Pro MacBook Pro because that seems to have the best endurance and prices are also quite reasonable. What’s my choice? I have an M1 MacBook Air for travel and will be ordering an M1 Pro/Max 16” MacBook Pro as soon as it is available in the custom configuration I decided to go with.

As soon as I get my hands on the New 16” MacBook Pro, I will make a video on my YouTube channel ‘Andro Dollar’ Stay tuned to to see that as soon as the video goes live.
