Bullish run ends at CSE

The Colombo Stock Exchange started the new week on a negative note as the three-day bullish run came to an end on Monday (10) with the benchmark index posting losses on a higher turnover with continued foreign exits from the Bourse. The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI), which started the day at 7,242.00 points, crashed 106.20 points (1.47 per cent) to close at 7,135.80 points, while the more liquid S&P SL20 index, which started the day at 2,887.27 points, crashed 37.450 points (1.30 per cent) to close at 2,838.19 points.
The day’s turnover neared Rs 2.47 billion, lower than the Rs 2.78 billion recorded during the Market’s previous day’s trading. Shares of 247 listed companies were traded during the day of which 149 were winners comfortably ahead of 28 losers. More than 153.29 million shares changed hands during the 18,649 trades that took place. Foreigners exited the CSE on Monday (10) for the ninth consecutive session.
The net foreign outflow during the day amounted to Rs 713 million, as foreigners sold shares worth Rs 877 million as against purchases worth Rs 164 million. The top ten winners during the day were: Beruwala Resorts, Property Development, Piramal Glass. Top ten losers were: Blue Diamonds, TAL Lanka, Abans Financial, Anilana Hotels, Eastern Merchants.
