FT Bullish run continues at CSE: ASPI hits new record high

Continuing its bullish run for the fifth consecutive day on Friday (22), the Colombo Stock Exchange saw its benchmark index peak to an all-time high on a higher turnover with some foreign exits from the Colombo Bourse. The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI), which started the day at 9,881.50 points, peaked to 9,994.92 points during the opening hours before crashing to 9,906.94 points during by midday. The index then gained to close the day at 9,915.22, gaining33.72 points (0.34 per cent) compared to the previous day’s close. 

ExpoLanka Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Hayleys, Royal Ceramic Lanka and Browns Investment pushed the ASPI up, while Commercial Leasing and Finance, Sri Lanka Telecom, John Keells Holdings, LOLC Finance and Ceylon Tobacco Company dragged it down. The more liquid S&P SL20 index which started the day at 3,572.70 points, peaked to 3,615.95 points during the later part of the day before slowing down to close at 3,605.72 points, gaining 33.02 points (0.92 per cent) compared to the previous day’s close The day’s turnover stood at Rs 4.46 billion, higher than Rs 4.26 billion recorded on the previous day. 

More than 149.4 million shares changed hands during 38,383 trades taken place. Shares of 259 companies were traded during the day, of which 112 emerged as winners ahead of 82 losers. Foreigners were sellers during the day. The net foreign outflow on Friday (21) stood at Rs 108 million as foreigners sold shares worth Rs 171 million as against purchases worth Rs 63 million. 

The top ten gainers during the day were: Ambeon Capital, Hayleys Fabric, PGP Glass, Colombo Fort Investment, Lanka Ventures, Hatton Plantations, Renuka Holdings, Abans, Amana Life and CIC Holdings. The top ten losers were: Tess Agro (non-voting), Sinhaputhra Finance, Sinhaputhra Finance (P), Mullers and Phipps, Commercial Leasing and Finance, Beruwela Resorts, Singer Industries, TAL Lanka, Asia Asset and Malwatte Plantations. 

Ex-pack IPO oversubscribed on opening day

Ex-pack Corrugated Cartons Limited Initial Public Offering (IPO) of 83,333,333 Ordinary Voting Shares by way of an offer for subscription at the Colombo Stock Exchange was oversubscribed on the opening day (22). The above IPO by Ex-pack Corrugated Cartons Limited, issued at a price of Rs 8.40 received applications over the approximate IPO value of Rs 700 million and was closed at 4:30 P.M.
