News Budget 2022: ACTWU wants Rs 16,000M for employee welfare

The All Ceylon Transport Workers Union (ACTWU) has urged the provision of Rs. 16,000 million in recurrent and capital spending to the SLTB under the Ministry of Transport in the 2022 Budget to strengthen the SLTB and preserve employee rights. In a letter, ACTWU General Secretary Sepala Liyanage said that a provision of Rs. 14,000 million in recurrent expenditure will be allocated to pay salaries and gratuities on time, increase employee salaries, repay loans owed to SLTB institutions, provide relief to working people including schoolchildren, and continue payments towards the Employees Provident Fund.

“The Ministry of Transport has set a budget of Rs. 16,000 million under the Ministry of Transport. We respectfully urge that you intervene to supply the SLTB with immediate effect, and we submit to your notice the copies of letters written in response to our request to allocate monies to the SLTB separately in the Ministry of Transport’s budget,” he said.
