Local Bogambara inmates stage protest atop prison roof

A group of over 20 prisoners have launched a protest atop the roof of the Bogambara Prison this morning (17), demanding to expedite PCR testing.

Prisons Media Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake explained that currently, remandees are being placed at the Old Bogambara Prison for a period of 14 days, after which they are admitted to the respective prisons, only in the event where their PCR tests have returned negative.

A group of remandees who had arrived last Wednesday (12), and are due to be tested on Saturday (22), are believed to be responsible for the protest, demanding that they be tested sooner, Ekanayake stated.
