Body of Indian fisherman handed over to ICG
The body of the Indian fisherman of the sunken poaching vessel was handed over to the Indian Coast Guard at the International Maritime Boundary Line yesterday (23).
The corpse was recovered on Wednesday, after Navy rescue teams engaged in a search and rescue operation.
Three fishermen fell aboard a sunken Indian fishing boat poaching in Sri Lankan waters northwest of the Kovilan Point Lighthouse in the North on Monday (18).
Two of them were rescued by the Navy and were later summoned to the location by the Kayts Police, to identify the deceased, following which his identity as the third victim was confirmed.
Onward legal proceedings regarding the duo are currently underway at the Kayts Magistrate's Court.
