Blustery weather forecast over the next few days

The Meteorology Department of Sri Lanka yesterday (29) predicted showers or thundershowers could occur in the mornings during the next few days in many places in the Western and Northern Provinces and the Puttalam District.
While commenting on the current nature of the atmosphere Senior Meteorologist Deshamanya Mohammed Saliheen predicted that showers or thundershowers could occur today (30) after 1:00 p.m., in a few places in parts of the country including the Northern Province.
Saliheen also instructed the public to be vigilant of possible lightning strikes and heavy winds advising cautiousness in event of such circumstances and to refrain from using electronic gadgets predominantly mobile phones.
He went on to warn against going out during these thunderstorms.
Saliheen noted that showers or thundershowers could occur in the deep and shallow seas from Puttalam extending to Pottuvil via Kankesanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
He even predicted that the wind velocity is expected to be from around 20 to 30 kilometres per hour (kmph) in the deep and shallow seas surrounding the island of Sri Lanka.
The wind may blow from North Westerly direction towards Westerly direction in both deep and shallow seas from Puttalam extending to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, Deshamanya Saliheen said.
The wind may blow from different directions in other seas and therefore the fishermen and other marine workers have been instructed to be cautious while navigating in those seas, Deshamanya Saliheen added.
