Bathiudeen to attend Parliament sittings
Serjeant-at-Arms of Parliament, Narendra Fernando, has informed the Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine, to take steps to allow Vanni District Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen to participate in today (22) and tomorrow’s (23) Parliament settings, at 10 a.m.
Copies of this letter have been forwarded to the Commissioner General of Prisons and the Director General of Health Services.
Fernando has taken this step following an order issued by the Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting held yesterday (21).
The letter states that according to the provisions of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act, it was decided at the Committee that Rishad Bathiudeen should be allowed to attend the sittings of the Parliament on the two said days.
The decision was taken by the Speaker, following a request made by Party Leaders at the Committee that arrangements should be made for Bathiudeen to attend the sittings of Parliament.
