Colombo MC allows police to detain Bathiudeen's wife and in-laws
The Colombo Magistrate's Court has granted permission for Police to detain All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Leader MP Rishad Bathiudeen's wife, and three others for a period of 48 hours for further questioning.
The MP's father-in-law and brother-in-law, and the broker who had brought the girl for employment from Dayagama, are also to be detained.
The suspects were arrested yesterday (23), and produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court this morning (24).
The 16-year-old victim had been working as a domestic aide at the private residence of SJB MP Bathiudeen and was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on 03 July after sustaining serious burn injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on 15 July.
