Basketball Secretary vows to fight on
The Secretary of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) Chula Senaratne responding to charges levelled against them by this newspaper in yesterday’s edition regarding the pathetic state of the sport, refuted allegations.
He stated that compared to the previous office bearers the present administration had taken several measures towards the development of the game. However, Seneviratne pointed out that SLBF had decided to draw the attention of Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa to the issues raised by Ceylon Today regarding the state of basketball in Sri Lanka.
He added that Rajapaksa had advised him to bring to the notice of the DG of the Sports Development Department and the National Sports Council all issues plaguing basketball. He also said SLBF will be meeting the National Sports Council once they get the appointment.
He said that measures were also being taken by the SLBF to conduct its next AGM on 24 October and noted that the acceptance of nominations had concluded on 15 September.
The SLBF Secretary alleged that a certain group that is struggling to win the forthcoming AGM is presently engaged in carrying out a mud-slinging campaign against the present office bearers.
