Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka: Herath to be Appointed Consultant Spin Coach
Former Sri Lanka Test skipper Rangana Herath is to be appointed Consultant spin coach for the upcoming Bangladesh tour (which is yet to be finalised), a source close to SLC confirmed to Ceylon Today.
Commenting on Rangana’s appointment the source at SLC said: “Rangana’s first job will be the upcoming Bangladesh tour (which is yet to be finalised), but we are expecting to get his services from time to time” It will be a huge advantage for the islanders if they obtain the services of the legendary spinner, who has been the backbone of Sri Lanka’s bowling attack during the past decade.
Rangana Herath’s final act came on Day-3 of the first Test against England in Galle, when he bowled his final delivery in Test cricket to Keaton Jennings. In his last Test, Herath could pick up only one wicket, but that doesn’t erase the phenomenal numbers he racked up in his illustrious career. Herath ended his career with more wickets than any other slow left-arm spinner in Test cricket, and is eighth on the alltime list.
Herath also holds the record with more wickets than any other spinner in the past decade in Test cricket, where he picked up 398 of his 433 Test wickets and is the second most prolific left-arm spinner of all time. Herath is also the first Sri Lankan to take a Test hat-trick in 17 years. He is third in the list of most 10-wicket hauls in Test cricket behind Muralitharan and Shane Warne.
