Azath Salley acquitted
Former Governor of the Western Province and leader of the National Unity Front, Azath Salley has been acquitted of charges of creating communal disharmony.
His acquittal was ordered by Colombo HC judge Amal Ranaraja this morning (02).
Salley was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in March this year, on a charge of making extremist remarks during a media briefing in an attempt to spew disharmony amongst the communities.
He had been detained by the CID for five months, after which the court remanded him.
