Avishka passes 1000-run milestone

Avishka Tharindu, skipper and right-hand middle order batsman of St. Anthony’s College Wattala, passed the 1000-run milestone this season in the ‘Singer Trophy’ Under-19 Division One Inter Schools Cricket (Two-day) Tournament.

Avishka started his career in 2009 when he joined the School Cricket Academy and played for the under-13 team. He led the team in 2014 and they ended as the Division One runner-up. He knocked two centuries against Gurukula Kelaniya and S. Thomas Mt. Lavinia in this tournament. He won the Best Batsman Award in 2014.

In 2015 and 2016 he led the under-15 team and scored five centuries. He led the Western Province North team in the Prima Champions Cup provincial under-15 tournament. 

In 2016 Avishka was a member of the Sri Lanka Schools under-15 team that toured Malaysia and won the title. Avishka was adjudicated man of the match in the final.

In 2017 he graduated to the under-17 team, where he scored 453 runs with 3 centuries. In 2018 he led the team and scored 652 runs with 3 centuries.

In his first two seasons in the 1st XI team he scored 460 and 640 runs with two centuries. He scored 888 runs with three centuries in his third season. 

He reached the 1000-run milestone (1014) with two centuries during the 2019/20 season. He scored a mammoth 350 runs against Lumbini Vidyalaya in 285 balls with 56 boundaries and 3 sixes.
