Automated traffic signal lights in use

The commencement of the automatic operation of traffic signal lights was enforced from yesterday (14) at selected intersections and roads in Colombo from 6:00 a.m., to reduce the traffic congestion.  Police Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana, said with the automatic operation of signal lights, Police Officers will not get involved in handling traffic in these areas. The automatic traffic signal lights will be in operation in Panadura, Moratuwa, Katubedda, Angulana, Borupana, Belek Kade, Maliban and Templers Road Junction, the Dehiwala Flyover and the William Grinding Mill Junction. Along the Colombo-Horana Road, it will be in operation at the Kesbewa Junction, Jaliyagoda along the Piliyandala Bypass Road, and Bokundara, Boralesgamuwa, Raththanapitiya, Pepiliyana and Kohuwala Junctions.

He further said the signal lights along the Malabe Road at the Malabe, Koswatta, Battaramulla, Ethul Kotte and Rajagiriya Junctions, and the Talawatugoda and Palam Thuna Junctions along the Kottawa-Battaramulla Road will be operational.

Signal lights at the Kimbulawala Junction along the Talawatugoda-Nugegoda Road and the Kelanitissa, Orugodawatte, Ingram, Dematagoda, Welikada Prison, Borella, D.S. Senanayake College Junction, the Borella Cemetery, the Police Garage, Kirimandala Mawatha, Narahenpita, Park Road and Polhengoda Junctions along Baseline Road, will be automated.

He further said automatic signal lights will be in operation at the Thorana Junction along the Kandy Road and the Mahabage Junction, along the Negombo Road.
